Hello World,

So, this blog is all about Augmented Reality and last night, I found a new twist, HORROR!  I watch a television show called "Evil."  Last night's episode contained Augmented Reality tainted with some horror.  Long story short,  Grandma gives her grand daughters a couple sets of augmented reality goggles.  Of course, the kids play a horror game that they are not old enough play, but that is not the creepy part.  In the middle of the girl's horrifying little game, they get a friend request from Rose390, which they accept.  Rose390 turns out to be something straight out of the Shining movie.  This is not my typical post on Augmented Reality, but I am not going in to more depth. I hope you will watch "Evil" and then we can have some great discussions about Augmented Reality and evil.  Thanks

Chuck

  2. Chuck,

What perfect timing with Halloween right around the corner! I will have to check this out. I've had a similar experience to this actually. My sister got a pair of those goggles for Christmas and the only game she got with it was a horror game. It was super scary, nut at least there were no friend requests.

  3. Chuck,

My wife was watching something similar to that a few weeks ago. It could have been the same thing. I remember the kids playing some AR chase the rabbit game and a creepy little girl showed up. No sir, that about ends my desire to put a pair of those goggle on.

Shifting gears, have you ever been the Intrepid Center of Excellence at Fort Sam? It has been a few years, but I remember the incorporation of AR and VR with actual physical environment inputs to help Wounded Warriors recover. The best one I saw, probably because my Soldier was the Wounded Warrior, immersed the learner in a auditory and visual digital world while an undulating floor and variable environment manipulated somatosensation inputs. Pretty neat at the time. The Soldier went from a wheel chair bound transtibial amputee, to running on a prosthesis in less than six months.

    1. Matt,

Yes, that is the show. I think it is a great show and the AR part just gave me something else to think about. I have been to the WTU at Fort Sam, but I did not get the full tour. I went there for a WTU training course and we played wheel chair basketball and other activities that are part of the their rehabilitative therapy program. Sounds really awesome though. Thanks for the reply.

  4. Chuck,

I wish I read your post last night I might have checked that movie out. After Halloween, I stop watching scary movies. When I mean scary movies, I mean Hocus Pocus. It is amazing how we start identifying all this technology around us because of these courses. I was watching a commercial the other day and was wondering how they made these objects appear. Did they morph them in? They probably do not use PowerPoint (PPT) but I was thinking of how I could do that with PPT. The Shinning, now that a great horror movie. At least my type of horror.
